Debian

Debian has been around longer than most other Linux operating systems, beginning in 1993. It uses only free software. Over a thousand developers now work on Debian. It is not backed by a large company, like some other linux distributions. Many other Linux operating systems are based on Debian.

Debian does not include new versions of programs as quickly as some other distributions, but waits until they have been more thoroughly tested. As a result, Debian is a very stable operating system, but does not have the latest versions of some programs.

Xfce

Xfce is a lightweight desktop. Ideal for running on slower computers, and computers with less RAM.

The precise computer requirements depend on which programs are installed. Not all programs will run on a lower performance computer that Xfce will run on.
