Tiny Core

Background Image

To add a background image, you need a jpg file. Use an appropriate size for the screen resolution. You may have more than one jpg file, and change the background image from time to time.

Install Background Images

Using the Root File Manager, copy and paste jpg files to "/opt/backgrounds."

After pasting files, open the Control Panel. Click "Backgrounds." Select a background. Click "Install."

If you use Persistent /opt but not Backup

If you use persistent /opt, but not backup, install background images (as above). There is nothing else you need to do.

If you use Persistent /opt and Backup

So that background images are not saved in backup, edit "/opt/.filetool.lst," removing "/opt/backgrounds." For more information see Backup.

To save settings, you must Backup when shutting down Tiny Core.

If you use Backup but not Persistent /opt

If you use Backup, but not Persistent /opt, it is best to create an extension for background images.

As more files are added to backup, it takes longer. If you make extensions for things which don't need to be in backup, it will be a little quicker.

If you install Tiny Core on another computer, or reinstall it on the same computer, you can just copy the extension.

To make an extension, the squashfs-tools-4.0 extension needs to be installed.

Begin by creating directories. Open the Root Terminal and type:

mkdir -p /home/myext/backg/opt/backgrounds

You can use different directories, but "/opt/backgrounds" must be used. If you use different directories, also use them in the following commands.

Copy and paste jpg files to "backgrounds."

To make an extension called "mybackg.tcz," open the Root Terminal, and type:

cd /home/myext
mksquashfs backg/ mybackg.tcz

Copy and paste the new extension to the "tce" directory.

So that background images are not saved in backup, edit "/opt/.filetool.lst," removing "/opt/backgrounds." For more information see Backup.

To save settings, you must Backup when shutting down Tiny Core.

For the images to be loaded, turn the computer off and restart.

Open the Control Panel. Click "Backgrounds." Select a background. Click "Install."

Backup when shutting down Tiny Core.
